From an idea to an AI-powered business
At the start of 2026, DonorMoves didn't exist.
I'd been coaching nonprofit development teams and had built a collection of systems and tools to help fundraisers manage donor relationships more effectively. I wanted to turn those ideas into something more complete, useful, and simple: a real product.
Not long ago, building software like that would have taken resources and technical skills far out of reach for one person. AI changed that.
I understand things best by building them, so DonorMoves became two things at once: a new product and a deliberate experiment in what AI could actually make possible.
The first step was simple: prototype the idea. Using AI development tools, including Replit, I was surprised by how quickly the concept became a working minimum viable product.
Then the experiment grew. If AI could help me build the product, could it help with the brand? Marketing? Operations? Legal work? Product strategy? DonorMoves gradually became my AI learning laboratory.
As I used AI for more, a new problem appeared. I had multiple AI tools and conversations doing different jobs, and I was constantly copying information between them. AI was making me more capable, but managing all that capability was becoming work in itself.
That led me to build the DonorMoves Operations Board: a single environment with specialized AI roles for different parts of the business. It began with two or three functions and grew to six specialized departments, supported by a governance model that lets them share information and work together.
Now I could return to any of them and pick up where we'd left off instead of rebuilding context every time. That's when AI stopped feeling like a collection of clever tools and started feeling like an operating system for the business.
The change wasn't just that individual tasks got faster. The entire project gained momentum.
I could manage product development, marketing, finance, legal, operations, and more without losing track of where things stood.
And the experience reinforced what now sits at the heart of my coaching:
DonorMoves began as one project. Building it changed the way I work.
You don't need to have an AI strategy, or even know exactly what you need. Bring me a problem, a repetitive piece of work, or something you'd simply like to do better. That's enough to start.
